WHAT MATTERS ON COMMUNITY SERVICE

Hi again, bloggers, this the school community service blog, again.

Today I am going to talk about, what really matters about community service, in schools.

In our school (berchmans school) we are with our students by supporting them with love in the encounter with their own persons, with others and with knowledge. We are located side by side as partners establishing deep relationships of dialogue.

Our students have the opportunity to participate in leadership experiences which aim to train young people with the capacity to lead processes of social transformation to others, especially those who need our help.

One of these activities is called LIFOLI, Leaders Forming Leaders, a leadership training experience with theoretical and practical methodology, which aims to support the integral development of students.

Also there is Curso Taller (in Spanish) an activity that aims into forming people into leadership from the inside growing life. We act for others while expressing sensitivity and making specific actions to situations of calamity.

In our school, we promote solidarity among members of the community to help the needy through concrete actions.

Community service in schools gets us closer to the problems of our communities and makes us a part of it. When we are a part of it, when we feel the problems, when we realize that all the persons near to us form a family together…

We act.

But all the people has to act to make a chain of helping hands, reviving our community.

Here there are two videos in Spanish that are part of a campaign shown on our school, that talk about the situation in Haiti, and how can we help them.

Ignacians for Haiti is a foundation that fights for a better education in Haiti.

THE PURPOSE OF THE SCHOOL FOR THE COMMUNITY SERVICE IS…

The purpose of the school for the community service is to form people; they want that the students make a good service to the community.

In the society that we live are many problems, and the people need the help of the others, for this school want to prepare the students to a port and help the people that need support.

The problems in the world emerge because people don´t want to help others, they prefer see how people sufferer for the little support that the other people give them.

In Berchmans School the students have the opportunity to come up for the problems of the society in different activities that the school make and prepare. This is an opportunity to apply all the knowledge that we have and is an opportunity to expose the development sustainable of the community.   

The service community is an activity that all we can do, because in many opportunities we can help the other with small and big things; is very important to make a good service in the school because for this we can apply these experiences in the true life or in the big problems of the society. Also with the knowledge that we have and that we learn in the school and in the time that we live can show the possibility to give a good live to others, is very easy make a good help to others use the community service because one day we have to need help and if we give community service the others also give to as.

Activities and purposes...

 Activities and purposes..

In the school community service, we can see that all activities help us to be good persons. The activities are:

·         F.A.S

·         Encuentro con Cristo.

·         Emprendimiento

·         Afectividad

·         Lifoli

·         Jucoli

·         Curso taller

·         Ejercicios espirituales

·         Voluntariado social

·         SJR

All these activities help us to increase like humans, and they all have an objective. The F.A.S is an opportunity to know the situation of people with fewer opportunities than us, and we also see those situations to learn about and help the people of fewer sources. The Encuentro Con cristo is an activity where we give a space to be in contact with God, and with our spirituality. Emprendimiento is a space where we learn how to be leaders in a social or business way. Afectividad is chance to look inside us and reflect about situations in our life and have introspection.

Lifoli is an activity of one week when we learn how to improve our qualities of leaders, and how we can use those abilities to help our community; this is an experience to just students of 6 and 7 grades. Jucoli is also an activity to learn how to be leaders but is just to students of 4 and 5 grade. Curso taller is just another experience about how to be a good leader, but is the final one because is just to students of 9 and 10 grades. The ejercicios espirituales, are experiences that live students of 11 grade, when they go to a house of retirement, and they stay on it 3 day in absolutely silence, so they can review their lives.

Voluntariado social, is just another way to help people, through the help that give the volunteers, to needed people, in excluded places of the city. SJR is another activity where students of 8,9,10 grades help communities giving food, and other kind of basic thing to survive.

In conclusion we can see that those activities help us to be better persons, that help people , and that those activities help us to connect with our spiritual side, that we forget all time, so we can conclude that those activities help us to cultivate our ignatian  spirit.

COMMUNITY SERVICE IN THE SCHOOL

In the school you can make a good community service applying all or the knowledge that learn in the class as technological, cultural, academics, and others that can use to benefices the people needs it.  In this way can help the community to ensure their welfare and those who are learning can help guide the lives of those who need more.

IN THE BERCHMANS SCHOOL THE COMMUNITY SERVICE IT CAN BE IN…

·         F.A.S

The F.A.S (formation into social action) is one of the activities that want to help others. Propose of this is that the students make awareness about the life of the community that have moral and economic problems. In the school the students from first grade and eleven grades go to foundations and share with this people.

·         LIFOLI

Lifoli (leaders forming leaders) have propose to make in the students the capability to lead and help others. In this activity the service community is in train students to have it in everyday life.

Some students that go to Lifoli say that

“For me Lifoli is an opportunity that I can change and improve, learn the capabilities to have a leadership and to improve as a person, the fact that surprise yourself for me means that many good things come and that through leadership and we learned how to act”

“For me Lifoli is a unique experience where I formed more as a person and in when I can prepare me to the future”

In conclusion we can see that the community service in all of the parts that we are, we can help to benefit the people.

WHAT IS COMMUNITY SERVICE?

WELL, at this time, I’m sure you are wondering what community service is and why this blog is that about.

First, I would like to know if the person who is reading this right know has done community service one time of his life. Maybe not, but, it’s very easy, because Community service is donated service or activity that is performed by someone or a group of people for the benefit of the public or its institutions. It is very easy; because you can apply it in common places such as school or house.

Who makes this service? Volunteers may provide community service; however, not everyone who provides community service is seen as a volunteer, because some people who provide community service are not doing it of their own free will. In our school, there are many types of service, for volunteers and for student’s mandatory, on eleven grade.

Community service is important because in the sense that it defines your role in your community, it shows how you are involved in your community, in your school. Getting involved in your community makes it healthier and livelier, and numerous organizations around the world support community service activities. It also helps to build a rich and supportive community of people who know each other and lend each other a hand when it is needed.

Community service is an opportunity to be part of the world, to mean something in others’ lives.

But for that, you will need passion, and you can only perform great a community service by liking it, enjoying it. Some people associate community service with punishment, since it is often offered to small-time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. But it is a vital part of each community of the world.

How can we use the school community service in our lives?

In OUR school..

The school community service has proposed to form leaders and people that can do the service in other place of the school. In Berchmans School the F.A.S is an activity that makes an interesting work to help the others and to service other communities that are in less conditions of life, than us. Also oneof things that make pastoral service is espirit works, also  in venture that realize the school.
